Psychotherapy
Therapy usually involves one 50-minute session per week over a duration of time determined by the needs of each individual.
People come to therapy for reasons that vary and are often deeply personal. Whatever you may bring into therapy, I aim to meet you in a professional, compassionate way that helps you to feel understood, and less alone in what you are facing.
It is important to keep in mind that therapy is not a quick fix, and healing and transformation require patience and commitment to the process. However, over time, taking small steps to face difficult feelings and understand yourself more meaningfully can fundamentally enhance the quality of your life and relationships.
What to expect in the first session
In the first session, I aim to provide a comfortable space to discuss your concerns confidentially. I usually begin by asking what you feel you need help with, and for some background information to help me build a picture of your difficulties. I will also answer any questions you might have for me about the therapy process.
Given that therapy is a commitment, it is important that we both agree that I am the right person to help you. With this in mind, I usually suggest that we being with three sessions as a starting point. At the end of the third session we will decide together about whether or not it would be helpful to continue.
If you are an adolescent, we will also include your parents or caregiver for a short part of the first session, to talk together about how the therapy process works and to ensure that we are all on the same page.
