Psychotherapy

Therapy involves weekly 50-minute sessions, over a duration of time determined by the needs of each individual. I see people at least once a week, and sometimes on a more frequent basis.

People come to therapy for reasons that vary and are often deeply personal. Whatever may bring you into therapy, I aim to meet you in a professional, compassionate way that helps you to feel understood, and less alone in what you are facing.

It is important to keep in mind that therapy requires patience and a willingness to stay with the process. Although this is not a quick fix, taking small steps to understand yourself more deeply over time can ultimately transform the quality of your life and relationships.

What to expect in the first session

In the first session, I aim to provide a comfortable space to discuss your concerns confidentially. I usually begin by asking what you feel you need help with, and for some background information to help me build a picture of your difficulties. I will also answer any questions you might have for me about the therapy process.

Given that therapy is a commitment, it is important that we both agree that I am the right person to help you. With this in mind, I usually suggest that we being with two or three sessions as a starting point. At the end of these initial sessions we will decide together about whether or not it would be helpful to continue.

If you are an adolescent, we will also include your parents or caregiver for a short part of the first session, to talk together about how the therapy process works and to ensure that we are all on the same page.
